This is an excerpt from the story " aladdin and the genie' from the book " Give me back my guitar" , author : Potharaju Ravindra , Publisher : Macmillan India .

Many years ago there was a youth called Aladdin . He was very poor and his mother worked very hard to keep the family going .
 
He did not do anything  the whole day and never helped his mother as well . He only dreamt of becoming rich .
 
One day as he was lazing under a tree , a stranger came to him and said : I am your uncle. Take me to your mother .
 
It was not in Alladin’s character to help out strangers . However this time he did because this person seemed to be very rich and he hoped for a reward .

His mother was most delighted to see her brother after so many years . The poor lady spent whatever little money she had to arrange for the supper .
 
After supper as they settled down , Aladdin who was very restless asked his Uncle : How come you are very  rich and we are so poor ?
 
His mother gave Aladdin an admonishing look but her brother said : That is okay sister  , let him ask . .
 
Aladdin asked him once again : Uncle , please tell me the secret behind  your richness .
 
His uncle said  : I can get whatever I want .
 
Aladdin ; Wow , are you a magician ?
 
His uncle laughed and said : no , I am not a magician but I have a Genie which  you can say has magical powers . .
 
Aladdin : What is a Genie ?
 
Uncle : A genie has the ability to fulfill all your desires without much effort . You just have to command it .
 
Aladdin : Can we ask it for a cartload of  sweets ?
 
His uncle again laughed heartily : Sweets ,  well with the help of  my  genie  , I can get a cartload  of jewels and gold .
 
Aladdin : You also mentioned that you need not  work very hard for it . Is that true ?
 
Aladdin’s mother was silent till now because she assumed that her brother was only amusing Aladdin . She said  :
 
Brother , I  think you have carried this story enough . You should stop now and tell the truth that there is no Genie with magical powers and it is through sheer hard work that one achieves anything worthwhile in life .
 
I can see Aladdin believing in what you said . As it is , he lazes the whole day thinking that he will become very rich one day . This  will only make him daydream more .
 
Uncle : My dear sister , this is not fiction . I am dead serious . I do have a  Genie which fulfills all my wishes .
 
I just need to command the genie and all  my wishes are fulfilled . It ensures that there is no struggle in life ,
 
Riches without hard work really excited Aladdin . After all this was what he dreamt the whole day . He asked his Uncle with even more curiosity : Apart from riches what else can we order  the Genie  .?.
 
Uncle : As I said the genie fulfills anything you desire for .
 
Aladdin : Even fame and power ? .
 
His uncle nodded .
 
His sister was still not sure whether her brother was serious . However  she was getting  curious , She asked : What about “peace of mind “ and “ Good health “?
 
Uncle : My dear Sister you can desire for anything and that would be fulfilled .
 
Alladin’s eyes were now fully lit up . He literally jumped with joy .
 
I knew I would become rich one day  . Uncle , Where is the Genie  ? can I have a look at it ? Please show us . Can I borrow your genie for some time ?.
 
His uncle laughed once again . So many questions at a time . Let me answer your questions .
 
No , You cannot have a look at the Genie . I am not supposed to show it to anyone for it loses its magic when done . Since I cannot even show it to you there is no question of you borrowing it .
 
Aladdin was crestfallen . He could see his dream getting shattered in a stroke . But why can’t you do that ?
 
Uncle : Because my genie will not work for you . You need to find out your own Genie  .
 
Aladdin was totally down when he remarked
 
Then I am sure that this Genie  is very expensive and we will never be able to afford it . I need to be rich to afford the genie and without the genie I cannot be rich . Looks like we are destined to be poor .
 
Uncle was very serious when he said : No , the genie is not for sale . You  should listen to me more carefully . Let me repeat what I said .
 
You need to find  out your own genie ,
 
            You need to “find” not “:buy “
 
Aladdin :  but I do not know where to look for them . Can you help me in finding mine ?
 
Uncle : I can  , but only if you listen and do exactly what I tell you .    ...........continued ............
